Need an Effective Weight Loss Plan? Try Food Sequencing

If your carnivore or keto diet is too challenging, there might be a way to lose weight under a less strict plan – food sequencing. But what exactly is food sequencing, and what makes it so effective?

Read on to find out.

How Does Food Sequencing Work?

Food sequencing is a diet that requires you to eat certain foods in a particular order:

  1. Low-starch veggies (greens)
  2. Protein-rich foods and fats
  3. Complex carbs, such as whole grains

What makes this food regimen powerful is that it requires you to start your meals with fiber-rich foods. As such, it can dramatically slow down digestion and the rate at which your body converts foods into sugars.

The second component, protein, is just as important. Since protein takes much longer to process than carbohydrates, it only makes sense to eat it before carbohydrates. It fills your stomach, further decelerates digestion, and keeps you satisfied for longer.

Moreover, eating fat and/or protein ahead of carbs encourages the release of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). The higher the level of GLP-1, the greater your gradual gastric emptying. In simpler terms, lots of GLP-1 means food stays in your stomach longer, which promotes satiety.

Experiment with Food Sequencing, But Your Menu Still Takes Precedence

The order in which you eat is essential, but it shouldn’t be the cornerstone of your diet. What you consume is much more important. By swapping out fatty and sugar-rich foods with their protein and fiber-based alternatives, you’ll lose weight faster.
